Hi Everyone,
Having survived another summer we are starting to put together plans for this years Area XI Championship. Last year was a great success so we are planning on following the same format with four sectional qualifiers and the top three from each section advancing to the Area Championship. As last year, the Sectionals will be held as follows: East @ Neshaminy, West @ Wissahickon, North @ Pocono Mountain East and South @ Springfield Delco. The Area Championships will again be held at the prestigious LaSalle College High School with 2 age divisions on Saturday March 20 and 2 age divisions on Sunday March 21, 2010.
There will be some changes though and here are a couple of big ones. First, the PJW State Championship is coming closer to home. Instead of an 8 hour drive to Erie (which was well worth it), I am happy to say that it will be held at the Wachovia Center in Wilkes Barre March 26 & 27, 2010. Area XI had more competitors than any other Area last year and we hope to shatter all records with the State Championships coming so close to home. Another change is that the Championship Committee has voted to add the 8& Under Age Division to the State Championships. The new weight classes will be posted on our website.
There will be an Area XI meeting very soon for the Area XI Championship.
Anyone interested is invited. It will be held at Franzone’s Pizza in Bridgeport, Pa just after the World Series. We will be looking at a number of issues in hopes to improve the Area Championship. Not to worry, we will NOT try to fix what isn’t broken only improve to make the best better.
We would also like to formalize the advancement process by having all wrestlers fill out an advancement form and may pay a nominal advancement deposit. The advancement deposit will be returned at the Championship on the day of competition. This will be discussed at the Area XI Meeting.
Another change of note: a wrestler may choose any qualifier to participate but may only compete in 1 (one) Qualifier. There will be NO double bracketing allowed either. This has been handed down from the big guys from PJW’s. I don’t believe this will affect us except to make things more clear.
Area XI is a force in the state and placing in the Area XI Championship is a huge accomplishment and we would like to honor the kid’s accomplishment so we are also going to try to make arrangements for podium pictures at the Area XI Championship.
We are also finalizing the design for the State Qualifier singlets. The final details and design will be decided at the Area XI Meeting. Again everyone that has interest is invited. The feedback we received so far has been great!
Sponsorship – Once again we would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming support we received last year. Without your help we could not have made it happen. We will once again be looking for sponsors but thanks to the support we received last year the cost of supporting a bracket will be much lower (we are still trying to figure out the costs).
Finally we would like to extend an invitation to the folks in Area XI to join the team. We worked hard over the last year to make it happen but it is important that everyone understands this is our area and if you think we can do something better join the team or at least let us know. We value all input and with your help and support we want to make things bigger and better. With the State Championship in Scranton this year we would really like to show the other areas what we can do. Hopefully we will see you at the Area XI Meeting. Again, it will be at Franzone’s Pizza in Bridgeport, Pa. Stay tuned for the date. Once more, everyone is welcome to attend.
Thank You!
Charles Springer
The Area XI committee has been hard at work getting ready for next season. We are setting our dates for the Sectional Qualifiers and we have been busy designing the 2010 Area XI singlet. For next year we will be using a sublimated design that should improve the quality and it will allow us to create an even nicer design.
West Sectional Qualifier (Wissahickon) January 31, 2010 (tentative)
South South Sectional Qualifier (SAA) February 21, 2010
Area XI Championship March 20/21 2010
PJW State Championship March 26/27 2010
We are also discussing ideas on how to improve things next year. The Area XI Chamopionship is a prestigious event with competition that rivals any national tournament so for next year we are planning on having podium pictures at the Area Championship with a custom Area XI backdrop.
Dave, Duke Terry and I appreciated the support we received and we want to make sure Area XI serves the wrestlers of this area so we welcome your input. Drop us a line if you think we are overlooking something important and by all means pick up the phone and give us a call if you would like to join the team.
